Recently I have considered easing up on some things in my own diet and my families. I'm tired, I'm pregnant and I would really like to pick up some french fries and call it a day. But I get one body. Same goes for my family- if I eat like crap and don't treat my body with kindness what will be the result? For many people there will be no consequences (the true difficulty in prevention work, trying to convince people that reference themselves as "skinny" that they shouldn't eat Cheetos for breakfast. The outside doesn't reflect the inside peeps). There are lots of people who are drug addicts, smokers, unhealthy eaters who live until they are 90. The odds aren't in their favor and that to me is too big of a risk. I know how my body feels when I eat poorly and I also know what it feels like when I treat it well. The results are completely different and I prefer feeling good.
I only have this one body and for now I'm in charge of 2 and a 1/2 others (yes I'm in charge of my husbands, what I would do to get that man to make himself a sandwich). That is a lot of pressure. I want to make sure that I am, for the most part treating them like million dollar race horses because we all deserve to feel good in our bodies. Don't get me wrong I'll get my french fries soon but everything in moderation - I'm sure once you win the derby you get something besides that silly flower necklace right?
